The Blazing Donkey

The Blazing Donkey is owned and operated by a golfing family. The inn, originally a farm dwelling dating back to 1763, offers first class accommodation arranged in converted stables in an attractive courtyard setting. The property enjoys a beautiful rural setting on the outskirts of Sandwich. It’s unique setting and style has made it a firm favourite for golfers visiting Princes championship links.

A total of 22 en-suite guest rooms are offered (sleeping up to 44 golfers). Private secure guest- parking is available outside each room making the lugging of golf clubs and kit really easy. For golfers braving the rains there is even a complimentary drying room for clubs and kit.

The Blazing Donkey’s accommodation facilities were opened by Peter Alliss in the early nineties. Each room has a bath and power shower, direct dial telephone and free high speed internet. There’s none of the frilly unnecessary extras, instead sensibly designed very comfortable and spacious rooms. All rooms are ground floor and each with flat screen TV’s and alarm clock radio’s so you don’t miss your tee time. Importantly, all rooms are also very quiet and so a good night’s rest is assured.

Samphire restaurant at The Blazing Donkey offers daily changing menus which are designed with particular emphasis on what golfers want; great steaks, game from nearby shoots, and seafood straight from the local day boats. “Harveys”, our AA rosette award-winning sister restaurant in nearby Ramsgate’s royal harbour has its own fishmongers and is only a short drive from the golf club. Our restaurant team at The Blazing Donkey regularly design bespoke menu’s for gala dinners or prize-giving events. Importantly, we’ll also make sure early breakfasts can be taken for any golfers with a really early tee time and if you’ve had a slow round, don’t worry, we’ll hold your dinner table as late as necessary too.

The popular bar is licensed late into the night and offers a wide selection of lagers, real ales and fine wines. Golfers can also enjoy watching special sports events at the bar on a large screen TV. In the Summer months the attractive terrace overlooking the immaculate gardens is the perfect spot to enjoy an early evening meal or drink.

The Blazing Donkey is very proud of its association with the team at Princes and very much look forward to welcoming you soon.

The Bell Hotel

The Bell itself has stood on its present site since the early 17th century, although an earlier Bell Inn was certainly in existence in Sandwich from the 14th century and reputedly hosted Queen Elizabeth I with a glass of sack. Although no longer host to monarchs The Bell is still renowned for its warm hospitality and stylish accommodation.

The Bell offers guests the opportunity to relax in traditional comfort with all the benefits of modern facilities to hand. This small hotel prides itself on providing the personal service and professional care which ensure that every stay is a memorable occasion.

The individually furnished bedrooms are attractive and spacious. All have ensuite facilities and views of the River Stour or the ancient streets and rooftops of Sandwich.

Crystal chandeliers enhance the atmosphere of the Regency Room with its high ceilings and intriguing Minstrels Gallery. Once used as the Assembly Room for the town, the Regency Room now provides an ideal venue for conferences, dinners and dances.

The Bell's elegant restaurant is famed for its exceptional cuisine. Pre and post dinner drinks can be enjoyed in the cosy cocktail bar, or in the more contemporary setting of the Magnum's Wine Bar, which offers a varied selection of light meals and quality wines.

Blazing fires in winter, sunny balconies in summer, friendly staff, efficient service and outstanding cuisine provide The Bell Hotel with a warm ambience to delight guests all year round.
